A to Z of IBDP Design Technology SL HL

Dear Students and Teachers,

Welcome to the world of IBDP Design Technology, the world full of creatvity, innovation and problem solving. It is journey of 2 years (mostly 18 months) during DP1 and DP2.

What is Aim of IBDP Design Technology course?

The aim of the IBDP Design Technology course is to encourage students to be innovative and resourceful while applying practical and creative thinking to solve real-world problems. The curriculum covers various aspects of design and technology, including but not limited to:

  1. Design Methods: Students learn and apply various design methodologies and processes, such as user-centered design, design thinking, and iterative design.
  2. Product Development: This involves understanding the entire product development cycle, from conceptualization and planning to prototyping and evaluation.
  3. Materials and Manufacturing: Students explore different materials’ properties and manufacturing techniques, considering their applications, sustainability, and impact on the environment.
  4. Human Factors and Ergonomics: Understanding how products interact with users, and ensuring they are user-friendly and meet ergonomic standards.
  5. Social and Environmental Impact: Evaluating the ethical and environmental implications of design and technology solutions and promoting sustainable practices.
  6. Digital Technologies: Integrating modern digital tools and technologies into the design process, such as computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM).
  7. Communication and Presentation: Developing skills to effectively communicate design ideas through sketches, technical drawings, and presentations.

How Assessment in IBDP Design Technology will look alike?

Assessment in IBDP Design Technology usually includes a combination of internal and external assessments. Internal assessments may involve practical work, design projects, and portfolios, while the final external assessment often includes a design project and a written examination.

Overall, IBDP Design Technology provides students with valuable skills for various fields, including engineering, product design, architecture, and more. It encourages creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, preparing students for future studies and careers in design and technology-related disciplines.
